Calvin
Fandom: Calvin and Hobbes
For those unfamiliar with Calvin's canon, an important thing to know is that he has what I like to call a Very Special Relationship with reality. Quite apart from the fact his BFF is an anthropomorphic tiger named Hobbes, who everyone else sees as a toy, he's liable to go off into a vivid and highly detailed imagine spot at a moments notice.
He's not insane, he just likes his version of reality better than yours (which is boring).
He's coming from ten years post-canon so he's sixteen, a junior, and not really that much more mature than when he was six. Though and he has mastered basic math, and he's graciously overlooked the fact that his only other friend Susie Derkins is a girl for years now. (Yes, she does wonder why she's his friend sometimes.)
Just on the warning side, Calvin has no real verbal filters, very little tact, and can be a cynical little misanthrope at times, he's also kind of ill-socialised as a result of being 'that weird kid who still plays with his stuffed toy', so he's liable to say something that'll get him thumped but good from time to time.
Also, if you're a person of the female persuasion, he's probably going to flail at you as often as not.
For the telepathic types in the room, he's an open, if nonsensical, book, just don't scribble in it since his head is a weird enough place already.
Which brings us to...
Hobbes
The situation with Hobbes is a wee bit complex.
As far as Calvin is concerned, Hobbes is real. Possibly even the most real thing in the world. If Hobbes does something to or with Calvin in a scene, it'll physically affect him. Calvin accepts that he seems to be the only one capable of recognising the fundamental truth of the universe that is Hobbes, and arguing the point with him will get you nowhere.
For almost everyone else (which includes the squirrels) barring any specific Fandom Weirdness, Hobbes is a battered stuffed tiger. Which means that a vast number of people are probably going to witness Calvin fighting with (and somehow managing to lose to) a toy half his size at some point.
Which brings me to one of two important points regarding Hobbes.
Please no modding the tiger.
By which I mean that it's okay to comment on him being in the scene based on what I'm saying he's doing, (eg, if he moves around while talking to Calvin in my ping, your character can confused over the fact that they were certain he was lying over there a moment ago), but please don't just up and say he's doing something.
Also, I know he's totes adorable, but please, please, please, don't have your character pick up, or do something to Hobbes without either IC or OOC permission (Hobbes is a total cuddleslut so if you ask the answer will probably be yes). People doing things to Hobbes is one of Calvin's berserk buttons and I'd rather avoid any unpleasantness (especially since Calvin is likely to be the one getting beat up).
My second important point is that there are a few exceptions to the rule that Hobbes is only real for Calvin, and if you think your character falls into one of them (or that they might be able to see him for some other reason), ping in the shiny OCD so I can know and keep track.
Exception A - If your character regularly breaks the fourth wall, then the Hobbes = Toy thing doesn't apply at all, you can interact with Hobbes just like you would any other character (though Hobbes'll still look like a toy to anyone else watching).
Exception B - Since Hobbes is 110% real to Calvin, if you're the kind of telepath/mind-reader who can hijack/eavesdrop/use Calvin's senses, then you can get Calvin's POV of things as well as your own (and if you don't decide he's completely nuts) and interact with Hobbes through him.
