Calvin, being Calvin, had somehow completely managed to miss the fact that Parent's Weekend had started yesterday, and was also completely oblivious to the fact he had a guest coming and that he'd stood her up at the picnic.

Calvin was kind of special like that.

Instead, he and Hobbes were going over the finer points of protocol in reviving G.R.O.S.S. As per usual, this discussion looked a lot more like a knock down, drag-out fight.

And Calvin managing to suffer a sneak attack from a soft toy, really was par for the course.

"Visiting you," Susie said, helpfully lifting Hobbes off of Calvin. "It's Parent's Weekend, remember?"

Calvin didn't, but he wasn't going to admit that to Susie of all people, second best friend or no. Besides there was one very important problem with that.

"You're not one of my parents. Unless there was some freaky body-swap or time-paradox going on."

"No, I'm not, thank god you're here to tell me these things," Susie said, then socked Calvin one in the arm. Hard. "That's for standing me up yesterday."

"OW!" Calvin exclaimed rubbing his arm. "You're as bad as Hobbes. I didn't know you were coming!"

"I send you an email," Susie said. "I sent you several emails."

"You haven't been checking your email, have you?"

"Of course I have...usually."

"I really don't know what to do with you sometimes," Susie sighed, before drawing Calvin into a sincere, if somewhat resigned, hug.

Susie hugs were good, as they usually meant she wasn't going to find something to hit him over if he managed to keep his mouth shut and not crack any jokes about cooties.

His success rate with that varied.
